Research Team

Dr Julie Brownlie
Julie is a sociologist at the University of Stirling where she teaches social theory and the sociology of the body. She has researched and published widely in the areas of interpersonal relationships, families, trust and emotions.  She is also an Associate Director of the Centre for Research on Families and Relationships based at Edinburgh University and sits on the editorial board of the journal, Sociology

Simon Anderson
Simon is Director of the Scottish Centre for Social Research and has 17 years experience of social research in government, academia and the private and voluntary sectors. Other studies he is currently involved in include a large qualitative study of problem gambling (funded by the ESRC and the Responsibility in Gambling Trust) and a number of large household surveys (including the Scottish Health Survey and the Scottish Household Survey).

Chris Creegan
Chris Creegan is a Research Director in the Qualitative Research Unit at NatCen. He has managed and conducted social research across a wide range of policy areas including children and young people, equality and diversity, employment relations and transport. His other current work includes a project with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation concerning modern day 'social evils’, research for the Department for Transport on the transport needs of disabled people and low income households, and an evaluation of the National Health Schools Programme for the Department of Health.

Lisa Given
Lisa is a Senior Researcher who joined ScotCen in 2003 after completing a degree in Politics and a Masters by Research at Strathclyde University. Since then, she has worked on a number of large-scale survey projects including the annual Scottish Social Attitudes Survey, the Scottish Health Survey and the Scottish Household Survey.

Susan Reid
Susan is a researcher who has recently joined the Scottish Centre for Social Research. She worked in social care with people experiencing mental health difficulties before pursuing a career in research. Having completed an MSc in Social Research at Edinburgh University, she worked as a researcher at the Local Government Improvement Service.

Nicky Cleghorn
Researcher at NatCen's qualitative research unit
Nicky has experience in the design and conduct of both quantitative and qualitative social research. Nicky will be conducting qualitative interviews and analysis.
